Helen Prime and Charlie Hilton recently received awards from the Athenaeum & Mechanics' Institute for their entries in the Year 12 essay competition. Helen's essay was about the work of Denise Walsh who retired from Logan Park last year after many years as HOD Drama and Charlie's essay was on Ngai Tahu/Chinese artist Simon Kaan. The essay judge Professor Tom Brooking of the History Department at University of Otago was impressed with the standard of the essays. Helen and Charlie won a cash prize of $500 each and also $500 each for the school.
Logan Park students were very successful in this year's Aurora Otago Science & Technology Fair receiving three of the seven Premier Awards. Congratulations to Grant McNaughton who was awarded the Best in Fair award for his exhibit "Branching Out", Meran Campbell-Hood who was awarded the Division of Sciences award for her exhibit "Elementary Observations" and Ethan Gaffney who was awarded the General Excellence award for his exhibit "Sorry We're Closed".
For the seventh year in a row, Logan Park students are the winners of the Otago Junior Classics Cup. Congratulations to the winning team Athenians comprising of Cameron Bayne, Clair Caird, Max Riddle and Ben Clayton who won on a tie-breaker from Praetorians also from Logan Park - Oscar LaDell, David Spencer, David Prime and Ruari Warren. Special mention also goes to Oscar LaDell who won the Otago Latin Reading Competition.
